Personal Statement:

It’s quite simple - I bring my internal dialogues to life.

I respond to materials

they dictate

my subconscious understands them

so

I don’t get in the way

 

once it leaves my hand

it’s not my place to tell you what you are looking at

or even what I meant

often I don’t consciously know

 

if you want to determine the meaning once and for all

then it is all over

 

 

Resume:
After teaching art in
the Jersey City public schools, Wiley studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 60s.  He returned to the east coast and earned an M.F.A. in sculpture from Pratt Institute in 1973.  The following years found him constructing and de-constructing numerous “pieces” – some of which have been exhibited with: The Hudson Artists; Painters and Sculptors Society of New Jersey; New Jersey City University; Caldwell College; Newark Museum; Jersey City Museum…and some even more obscure locations.  After moving to central Jersey, Wiley joined the Sculptors' Association of New Jersey, Artsbridge, and Trenton Artists' Workshop Association.  He has exhibited at the Palmer Museum, Monmouth Museum, Stockton Art Gallery, Trenton City Museum, Phillips' Mill, The Salmagundi Art Club, and numerous other galleries in the NJ, NY, and PA area.
