Personal Statement:
It’s quite simple - I bring my internal
dialogues to life.
I
respond to materials
they
dictate
my subconscious
understands them
so
I don’t
get in the way
once it leaves my hand
it’s not my place to tell
you what you are looking at
or even what I meant
often I don’t consciously
know
if you want to determine the meaning once and for all
then it is
all over
Resume:
After teaching art in the Jersey City public schools, Wiley studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 60s. He returned to the east coast and earned an M.F.A. in sculpture from Pratt Institute in
1973. The following years found him
constructing and de-constructing numerous “pieces” – some of which have been
exhibited with: The Hudson Artists; Painters and Sculptors Society of New Jersey; New Jersey City University; Caldwell College; Newark Museum; Jersey
City Museum…and some even more obscure locations. After moving to central Jersey, Wiley joined the Sculptors' Association of New Jersey, Artsbridge, and Trenton Artists' Workshop Association. He has exhibited at the Palmer Museum, Monmouth Museum, Stockton Art Gallery, Trenton City Museum, Phillips' Mill, The Salmagundi Art Club, and
numerous other galleries in the NJ, NY, and PA area.
